Force SD reader to ignore write protection?

I have a Dell Inspiron that came with that one TEAC multi-card reader (this thing) and it seems like every single SD card I put in it, regardless of the position of the write protect tab, is detected as "protected" for some reason. This includes MicroSD adapters and cards that don't even have a switch. I obviously need this to not happen, and honestly write protection in general is just a massive annoyance to me because I'm not stupid enough to accidentally format a card or something, so is there a way to just force my card reader to ignore write protection altogether?

My guess is that card reader is faulty. Buy an external one that connects to a USB port. I'd be surprised if it gave you the same problem.

Not to be rude, but that doesn't really answer my question. I'd much rather have a (free) software solution, rather than a (costly) hardware one; if it were a matter of me simply being able to go buy a different card reader I wouldn't be asking in the first place.
