I have found that far too many DVDs that have the recording layer, under the plastic, has disintegrated, in circles. They are mostly 20th Century Fox discs.
My older discs are OK, these are discs from 2005, and later.
Always, they are discs that I want to keep.
Is there a way to stop this??

Disc rot is pretty commom. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about it and telling you how to make a backup of those movies is against forum rules since copying commercial CD's/DVD's is illegal (at least in the USA).

Thank you for a quick response. Not I know what it is called.
My most recent , very sad case, was a Brand New Sergio Leone Anthology, sealed and never opened. When my client opened it, he found that the movie discs were mostly bad. However the special feature discs, were OK. Strange.
I have a few other 2 disc versions, where the main disc is damaged, but special features are OK.
Again, thank you for your answer.

Try them on a good Pioneer DVD-Video player and see if they work.
