MyDell Inspiron 1545 crashed yesterday. It will not boot up........I ran the internal diagnostics and it says I don't have a hard drive - ie, it is not recognized. Now what do i do.

i was told it "might" be the bios backup battery, but where do I find it. i opened the compartment in the back where the d Ram is - i have replaced that a year ago to more ram.......but i don't see anything right away that looks like a battery.

It's probably not the bios battery. Boot your system, and go into the bios. If the time and date are correct, then the battery is not the issue.

You probably just need to buy a new hard drive.

That's part of the problem.....it will not boot up.

I run the internal diagnostics and get

"internal hard drive not found." And "No bootable devices"

You should be able to get to the bios without a drive. It won't boot because there's no drive to pull the OS from, but the bios doesn't need a hard drive.

You should be able to get to bios by pressing F2 during post.
