Is it advisable to use the WD Red hard drives in an non-RAID, non-NAS solution? I am building a new PC, and want to have one 2TB hard drive inside the case as my data drive (will have SSD as OS/apps drive), and then a second 2TB drive externally connected via USB 3.0 as my data backup drive. Someone told me to save the money, forego the WD Blacks, and get the WD Reds.
What say you? I am looking for reasonable speed, as well as reliability.
I already have 950GB of data (mostly pictures and videos of the family) on my 1TB drives, and the RAW files from my Canon 7D and 40D go onto my data drive before working on them in Photoshop. Thus my thinking of having 7200 rpm drives.
