Budget gaming system

A friend of mine asked me to make him a budget gaming system, and I (for a small fee off-course) agreed, so I'm now aksing you: wich of these two configs is better:

Asus M2N68-AM Plus M-ATX (max 4g ddr2)
4GB 800MHz DDR2
Samsung 500GB 7200rpm S-ATA
Samsung 22x Speed DVD-Brander Dual Layer S-ATA
Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 768MB
HKC 4672GD M-ATX Mini-Tower
HKC 580watt ATX

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 Socket-775 Boxed
4GB 800MHz DDR2
Samsung 22x Speed DVD-Brander Dual Layer S-ATA
Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 768MB PCI-express
HKC 4672GD M-ATX Mini-Tower
HKC 580watt ATX, 14cm Fan, 2x PCI-E, SLI-support

They're at virtually the same price, and exactly on his price limit, so which one is better?

  1. oh yes, and the second system has 500 gigs too, off course...
  2. Im not an Intel fan, but seeing as the Amd build doesn't appear to have a processor, I'd have to say the intel build wins at the moment as its the only one that will work :P

how to ask for build advice, give us budget restraints and well see what we can come up with for you,
but both those builds are aging and could be beaten by something more current (I.E. longer lasting) at the same price,
  3. 1. Hit an entry level 450-550W 80+ PSU

    2. Actually with fresh builds go with DDR3 platforms as the sun has gone down on all DDR2 ones
  4. Okay, and the amd has a phenom II X4 945
  5. Ok, thanks for that man, As Batuchka re-iterated though a ddr3 system is what you should be looking at, do one of the new build sheets and we'll see what people throw out for you
