Hey all!! :hello:
I Have used this site frequently for reviews and info but i just joined today.

I'm hoping to get some Q's answered on my new build.

1. Will there be a big difference going from DDR 3 1600 to DDR3 1866 ram ?

2. I have read that there is really no difference between,
G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR &

&
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231455

3. I am buying a GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128514

It states that is supports
DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066
.
Does that mean that i can run 1866 ram without overclocking it to obtain the 1866 ?
As i have read AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban CPU's, stock, only support up to 1600 ram.

I will be running 2 EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1463-KR GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB in SLI.

If there won't be a major noticeable difference between the 1600 & 1866 ram i may just opt for the cheaper 1600 so i don't have to mess around with overclocking it.

Thanks in advance for any insight & help on this!!

If any more info is required just ask & i will post it.

Thanks again!

Thanks.

That's what i was thinking, as per my post,
Does that mean that i can run 1866 ram without overclocking it to obtain the 1866 ?
As i have read AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban CPU's, stock, only support up to 1600 ram.

So I would have to overclock the ram a little ?

I already plan on overclocking the CPU anyways but i have never really overclocked ram before.

Is it worth getting the 1866 over the 1600 & overclocking it, would there be that large of a noticeable difference between the two speeds ?

Thanks!

There is very little diff in performance from OC'ing RAM. The Phenom X6 officially supports 1600 MHz. but can usually be OC'ed to 1866 MHz. or a little higher depending on the components.

Since you are buying an AM3+ mobo - which will allow you to upgrade to Bulldozer CPUs in the future, you might as well buy the 1866 MHz. RAM as that is the default RAM speed for Bulldozer.

I would go for the lower height and priced RAM to be sure it clears your CPU heatsink. DDR3 RAM does not run hot so the tall heatsinks are mostly for looks/marketing purposes.

Thanks for the info!!

I already have a CORSAIR H80 for my new build, i have a CORSAIR H50 on my quad system and love it so much i had to go with the larger system for my new hex core build, so the ram being able to fit under the CPU heat sync is not an issue.

But i already said to heck with it and ordered the G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) because it was on sale for $59.99 from newegg and from everything i have read it does not seem to be any different from the Ripjaw X series.

And i was also thinking the same thing about the new Bulldozer CPU.

My current quad core system will be able to use the hex core CPU so i could upgrade my new build to an 8 core Bulldozer cpu, then move the 6 core cpu to my quad core mobo/system, then give my son the quad core cpu to upgrade his dual core as he has the same mobo as my current quad core :D

The specs for my new build are,

I have everything now except the CPU, which i will be ordering next week and finally put it all together...

Rosewill ARMOR Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Ultra U12-40841 X4 Gold Edition Modular Power Supply - 1000W, ATX, 80 Plus Gold. (I have a couple of their PSU's and they rock!! Plus the lifetime warranty does not hurt!!)

CORSAIR H80 (CWCH80) High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

2 x EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1463-KR GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB
) I am using 1 of them in my current quad core system with a Asus VH238H 23" LED Monitor and it rocks!!!
