$1500 Dev/Light Gaming i7 Rig - Buying Parts This Week

Last response: in Systems

Approximate Purchase Date: This week

Budget Range: $1500-$1600 Before Rebates ( I hate MIRs)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: High CPU use development, gaming, surfing the internet, watching movies

Parts Not Required: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com - not close to microcenter

Country of Origin: USA

Parts Preferences: Intel i7

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Yes, in the future. I want one card for now but to be able to drop in another when I buy a 3rd monitor.

Monitor Resolution: 2x 1680x1050 + 1x1920x1080 in the future

Additional Comments: Quiet is better

I'd like to build this this week so I'm looking for some final feedback. I know it's a bit weak on graphics right now but the plan is to add a bigger SSD, a 2nd graphics card, and a new monitor in 6 months.

The OCZ Vertex 2 60GB is selling at $126 AR @ Newegg. It's better than Agility 2.

I recommend these parts for you.

Save money get i7 930 instead

Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600 $159.99 + $ 20 MIR

80 Plus Silver and Modular. 750W is adequate to SLI or Crossfire
XFX Black Edition 750W $129.99 + $15 MIR

Thanks.

i7 930 + Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R $471.99
I'm still deciding between the 930 and the 950. Is a 930 OC'd basically the same thing?

Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600 $159.99 + $ 20 MIR
Ok, switched to this memory

80 Plus Silver and Modular. 750W is adequate to SLI or Crossfire
XFX Black Edition 750W $129.99 + $15 MIR
This does look like a better power supply for the price.

XFX 5870 $389.99 + $20 MIR
I'm still going to stick with the cheaper card above for now - I'd rather save that money and get a better monitor in the future.

Scythe SCMG-2100 $39.99
Ok I'll use this cooler

i7 930 and i7 950 will overclock 3.6 GHz through 4.0 Ghz. i7 930 is fast enough for stock.

If you do get GTX 460 that means you have SLI soon next year. Demanding games such as Crysis 2 and many others coming out next year. Trust me its worth to spend extra money on GTX 470 or 5870. I have 5870 and I love it because I want to setup Eyefinity. I just had my computer built 3 weeks ago.
