Clarification of SATA version

I'm thinking of upgrading to an SSD, but i'm having trouble acertaining whether I have SATA I, II or III, which will obviously have a bearing on the maximum transfer rate I will get out of the drive.

It s Dell motherboard: 054KM3

And I understand that the SATAQ Ports are:

Revision 1.1 specifications of the extensions to SATA 1.0a.

I think this is SATA II 3.0Gbits/s

Could somebody confirm please?

  1. It is the SATAII 3.0Gbits/s, here is the link from Dell (Technical Specifications) http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/SYSTEMS/vos430/en/SM/index.htm
  2. Thanks!

Just to be sure, when it says:

    SATA: 1.5 Gb/s and 3.0 Gb/s

It means the each port can handle both speeds, not that there's one of each?
  3. Yes, SATA port is backward compatible.
