Hard drive repetitively failing and working again at random! :@

Hello, i have a acer travelmate laptop i purchased a couple months ago for school that i dont have a receipt for anymore. After about 2 months of owning it, it started to randomly blue screen every here and there, then says "please insert boot disk and press any key" for about two weeks upon booting it. After about 1-2 weeks it will boot up as it would normally and work again until another one of these random blue screens. Any ideas as to how i could fix this problem WITHOUT sending it in for repair and/or buying a new hard drive? Any input on this will be taken into consideration and greatly appreciated.

the hard drive is repetitively failing for 2 weeks then working again basically from what i can tell with a very basic knowledge of computers.
