I used to have this HDD plugged in at all times into my computer (which, in hindsight, was a bad idea I think). One day, my computer did a file check on my external HDD; I didn't think much of it because I thought it was routine. About a week after, I couldn't access my HDD anymore.
I went into disk management, and found the hard drive has a CRC error. Upon checking online, I found that my HDD has died, most likely of physical damage.
There are really important data in there that I want get back out (4 years of university work!!). I've heard of the freezing trick, but I don't know how well it works. I have also tried orienting the HDD in different ways, but no luck.
The warranty is gone, so I can't get Hitachi to fix it for me anymore, so I don't mind any drastic suggestions (ie. ripping open the external case).
Thank you so much! If it works out and I can get those important information out, I would be forever grateful!! And I would be smart to keep multiple back ups of it from now on.
