the gtx 460 will work well if you have a solid 450w PSU

What power supply do you have (you will have to open the case if you don't know) and tell us your motherboard, if you dont know the name of it you can find out wiht a simple utility called CPU-z.

go with the 460 or the 5770 if the 460 is out of your budget

Just to edit. I'd go for them in this order GTX460 1GB > GTX460 768MB > 5770 1GB.

What power supply do you have? If you ran a 8800Gt before, it will definitely run a 5770. A GTX460 takes a little more power.

That PSU gives you 30A on the 12V rails. I would say you could go for a 5850, but wouldn't test my luck on a GTX470 with that unit. I'd say a GTX460 1GB is a good choice or a 5850 if you want to go higher end.

get this instead

* it seems Mafai II is a Nvidia game, without any benchmarks to prove it but it should have stronger Nvidia driver support out of the gate. An OC GTX 460 1GB can keep up with an ATI 5850 in the real world.

the 2GB is a marketing gimmick, the card is not fast enough to take advantage of 2GB of RAM. if you play at 1680x1050, the 768mb card is more then enough. if you are at 1080p or higher, look for a 1GB card.

I whole heartedly agree with ct1615 and Jay2Tall. The GTX 460 is your best option for that price range. The 1GB version should be your preference (768MB if you absolutely can't foot the budget).

And as ct1615 just stated, the 2GB RAM version is basically pointless unless you're playing at like 2560x____ resolutions or using multiple monitors. You spend more for no real gains.

The MSI Cyclone GTX 460 is awesome too. It reviews really well, performs great, and is a fantastic cooling system.

"or" 2gb on gameX is saturated as its game engine's vram usage wont go beyond Xram @ Xresolution regardless of the graphics core.
