External HDD:Movies stop playing in between & clicking sound

Hello,
I have a Buffalo HD-PCTU3 external drive. Now after a few months, my external stopped playing a movie I was watching. The window simply freeze. Now, this drive is only filled a little more than 50% and contains mainly movies & video clips or photos. After every two minutes or so, the HDD freezes and start playing a clicking sound. I don't know what's wrong.. Can anybody help?
(Windows 7 Ultimate x64, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB memory)

Clicking sound seems to me like your hd is going bad.

So, a format is going to help or hardware is creating this problem? Then a replacement is the only solution!!
