Hello some of you may remember me from a few months back, I made a thread asking for advice on what to buy, Hereisphilly happily obliged and gave me a sweet list of parts.

Due to unfortunate circumstances I was forced to delay my build by a few months. Knowing how fast the PC market moves I figured some of the list would be out of date, which is why I've come back to ask for an update from this kind community.

Here's the list from July of this year:

CPU - AMD Athlon II X3 435 - 2.9 GHz - €65.29 exc. VAT [...] 9-ghz.html

MOBO - GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD3P - €73.99 exc. VAT [...] ocket.html
I've got the cheapest/best with 2 full speed pcie lanes, as you said you might want to CF later

GPU - SAPPHIRE TECHNOLOGY Radeon HD 5770 - 1 GB - €128.28 exc. VAT [...] gddr5.html

CASE - COOLER MASTER Elite 310 - €25.30 exc. VAT [...] ase-b.html
Really nice/cheap case, comes with 4 fans too!

RAM - OCZ Gold Low Voltage 2 x 2 GB DDR3-1333 - €85.04 exc. VAT [...] -2-gb.html

PSU - CORSAIR CMPSU-550VXEU PC Power Unit - 550W - €72 exc. VAT [...] er-un.html

OPTICAL - Samsung SH-S223B DVD±RW - €17.49 exc. VAT [...] fiche.html

HDD - SEAGATE Barracuda 7200.12 Hard Drive - 500 GB - €35.95 exc. VAT [...] rd-dr.html
I included this, as it one of the fastest 7200 drives you can get, and in total, it sticks to the buget

Total = €505exc. VAT

Hope this helps!

And the original thread post:
APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Between now and the end of the year
BUDGET RANGE: roughly €500 give or take some After Rebates

SYSTEM USAGE: I'd like to be able to play all current games, I don't expect them to be on ultra high settings but I would like to be able to run them in some playable form

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS and HDD (I have a couple lying around the place I could use)

PARTS PREFERENCES: No particular prefrences I'm quite new at this so I don't know much about brands etc.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I should say this is the first time I've ever tried doing this so I'm quite new some stuff may be lost on me, I plan on buying the parts over a good period of time probably like one or two parts a month as the money allows. I've been looking around for parts but I can't for the life of me understand what I should be looking for.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I always get my parts from Their shipping is a bit steep, but if you are getting an entire computer their prices make it worth it. I had a quick look at the pixmania pro site, and comparing the prices HWVS was still cheaper even with VAT.

Heres a quick basket for €475 + €30 shipping. Its pretty close to your original one:

Athlon II X3 445 €68

Asus M4A77T/USB3 €70

Sapphire HD 5770 €120

Spinpoint F4 320GB €35

DVD RW €18

Antec 300 €54

OCZ StealthXStream 500W €46

4GB A-Data Ram €65
