Do you have that game fully patched? (Not sure if there are any). Anyway if it only happens with that game its a software problem with the game.

all of the STALKER games have had a tendency to be a bit jumpy, both CS and COP I have suffered massive frame spikes but maybe not quite as bad as your getting. Sun rays/god rays can be a killer, can you track down when the spikes actually happen or is it just constant?

What are your other system specs ? how is your FPS in other games? As Helltech said, do you have the latest patch installed ?
Also make sure you have the latest VGA drivers installed

System specs needed....also, performance in other games.

In the meanwhile, make sure there are no heavy programmes running in the background while playing the game.

When exactly does your FPS drop ? is it loading textures, a new scene ? or its random ?

I remember having low FPS(with drops) in Stalker clear sky and it was fixed after i installed 5 patches for it! So try downloading the latest patch and see if it helps

Two things appear to me:

1. Heat issue:
The card maybe getting heated. Try turning up the fan speed by setting it to manual. Also, make sure your case has enough space for the hot air to escape.

2. RAM:
May 'not' be the problem, but switching to DDR3 may help.

Did you get the latest drivers from nVidia? If yes, try rolling back to your previous drivers as the latest drivers have given some people (not all though) problems in some games, including Stalker.

hmm,set your graphic's settings to the lowest and check if you get FPS drop or not, there may be a specific option causing this drop.

The Op already said even on lowest settings the prob subsists.

It seems specifically related to Stalker coz he isn't having the problem with any other game.

Oh sorry, i missed that.
Well Stalker series aren't very optimized, so its probably the game's problems but I'll search more about it and will report back if i found anything.

I never had this problem with that game with a dual core and a much weaker card. Have you tried reinstalling the game?

There is an option in Nvidia control center called "Threaded optimization", set it to OFF and see if it helps
