Generally you'd want to go with dual xeon hexacores (x5650 or higher) a quadro(4000 or 5000) and some tesla's (C2050).
You really don't need to build a $10k rig though, unless this is for work. You can make a very good 3ds max rig using just an i7-980x and 1 quadro 5000 for ~$3,500.
