CPU choice for WoW

Forum CPU & Components : CPUs CPU choice for WoW

Word :    Username :

So, I'm looking to upgrade my system and I'm in need of a new CPU. Currently I am using an E2180 from Intel and I would like something that would boost the performance while playing WoW.

I'm not all that experienced when it comes to CPU's, which gives me a hard time choosing what to take, could you guys help me out here?

Budget is somewhere between 100-200

My motherboard is a 945GZM-S2 from Gigabyte

Thanks in advance!

I'd say go with the e8400 or the q8400. They are both the same price and you'll need to decide which you want.

The difference is the e8400 is a Core2duo while the q8400 is a Core2quad. Performance-wise, the e8400 is not much less, but takes less power. If your power supply is not very good and you have a high end graphics card in there already, you might want to opt for the e8400.

You can compare the two cards here: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/89?vs=56

Most likely for WoW the Q will be a better choice.

it is a poorly coded game. Poorly coded games cause unneeded stress on the gpu and cpu and waste memory space also.

what gpu do you have?

I have a GTX 460

Get the quad and put Wow into dx11 mode if you haven't already.

how is WoW poorly coded? it runs well on low end machines with graphics turned down and looks pretty impressive once you crank up all the visials , heck it can be maxed out in ultra on a medium machine... most people rant and rave about blizzard optimization... i think you're the first person i've hear of to say anythign really negative abotu thier coding... i suspect you have no idea what you are talkign about
