I currently have an Athlon II X4 620, usage is web based and gaming at 1280x1024 (with Radeon HD5770), I am looking to move to gaming at 1900x1080, and would like to know would I be better off upgrading my CPU before moving to a Radeon HD 6950 or 570GFX, waiting for price drops following Sandy, or waiting for BD.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on your budget and whether you need ddr3. It's very cheap right now. 2 (4) gb sticks of 1333 gskill were only $75 this morning in newegg's email promos. I would also list your favorite games and current fps rate (frames per second). I'm not a gamer, so hopefully you'll get more responses, but list the budget first.

what the rest of your current specs.?

AM2+ 790X Motherboard

I know I will need to upgrade later in the year to a DDR3 MB, be it Sandy or BD, I want to update the GPU while there are some decent offers around, on the higher end lines, be it Nvidia or AMD (Ati).

I am not going to change my mainboard until later in the year when BD and Sandy have both been released, and was just wondering is it worth going to a 965/970BE, with maybe a HD 6870 / HD 5870, or just get the 570GFX / HD 6950, and upgrade the processor later in the year, I suppose I just need an idea if the X4 620 will kill the performance of the 570GFX at 1920 x 1080?

Just snag an HD6950 2GB, and bump that quad to 13x240MHz.

I suspect your frame rates will remain mostly consistent. Resist the urge to spend money on a CPU upgrade - just set the cash aside.

If it piles up high enough, buy a second HD6950

AM3rc2 should be rolling out soon enough, and you can start eye-balling DDR3 upgrades.
