the GTX 470 uses the GF100 chipsets and the GTX 460 uses the GF104, cooler and with same benefits of FERMI technology and Core function!

The GTX 480 and 470 get too hot!! wouldn't be my choice!!

MSI GTX 460 has the GF104 chipset, plus the 9cm Cyclone fan?? I Mean, come on, how much cooler do you want to get! then you can overclock your setup to out perform any 470, even in Sli!

yeah the GPU is definitely the low point in the story, upgrading to the GF100 chips will definitely help with the FPS in the games!!

your power supply is more than sufficient, have you considered Sli-ing two GTX 460?

http://www.guru3d.com/article/msi-geforce-gtx-460-cyclone-oc-1024-review/

read the review about this great buy! its an attractive card, and not only with its looks, and this buy will be much more "budget friendly"

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127510&cm_re=msi_cyclone-_-14-127-510-_-Product

remember, the sli of GTX 460 perform better than a single GTX 480, for much less cash on the block!!

Just my thought

I have the MSI GTX 460 1GB and I have to say I highly recommend it. Especially with the design of the cooler, it really benefits from a case with good airflow. It is extremely quiet and overclocks like crazy. You get a great performance boost with MSI Afterburner.

Stock is 725mhz for the core clock and I was able to easilyyy bring it up to 840. I'm thinking about taking it higher soon and playing with the voltage control.

exactly, thanks for agreeing!! MSI has great support, not saying that the others don't, but from personal experience from friends setup!

by the way: w0lfATTACK, update your configuration!

I'd recommend a nVidia GTX460 SLi as your system can handle it, Preferably THIS lot of Gigabyte 460 1GB cards, there overclocked and at 229.99 each or 459.98 for the SLi configuration there reasonably cheap.

Otherwise you might like these Asus 460's which are also overclocked for 229.99 or 459.98 for the SLi configuration

Seeing as you have such a high price range I'd recommend THIS 5970 for $649.99, Although its about $250 more expensive than a 460 SLi config its definitely worth it, theres also a Black edition XFX 5970 for $714.99 on newegg atm.

EDIT: In actual fact I'd probably pick the ASUS cards over the Gigabytes

No way, get the MSI Cyclone with 1GB. It doesn't even cost that much more and for a $1000 budget, I think he can afford it lol.

the majority of you are pointing me toward the gtx 460, how about the gtx 470 sli or the gtx 480? I still have some spare change. No matter what card I buy, as long as it can handle my gaming preference as stated way above. I am going to run it through a water cooling system (which i plan to invest 600'ish into). Heat won't be a problem, although power consumption most likely will.

Thanks for helping me out so far guys and gals.

As I said before a single GTX 470 will be enough for you at those resolutions. You can get one on NewEgg for 250 dollars right now.

If you are water cooling I would get a single 470 now, and another in the distant future when you "need" it or when you upgrade your montior.

Thanks helltech, i might just go that route gtx 470 single and then try out the dual gtx 460 1gb u guys suggested. Good thing there's a fry's electronic near me that let me return stuff without 15% restocking fee (with a good excuse).
