From what I've seen thus far (I haven't gone through too many tho) on a single card alone a 5850 is similar to a 6870 (with the 6870 being a bit better), but the real benefit of the 6000 series at the look of things is that they CF better. (same thing that you've seen b1?) Add that to a lower price and it's quite a nice improvement.
