Hello, I have an EAH5850... when I overclock it to 900/1200 @ 1.23 vcore every game I play crashes and windows tells me that the display driver has stopped working... Any help is greatly appreciated... I rolled back drivers from 10.7 to 10.6 but still the same thing... Is it 'cause my psu is struggling to provide sufficient power to the gpu?

Hello
Well revert back to stock speeds and check if it still crashes or not, also 10.6/10.7 are buggy and many users have problems with them,so try an older driver like 10.5

I think you just have too high of an overclock. When you overclock (start at stock speeds) the GPU just do a little bit at a time on the memory and core clock, test with Furmark, when you finally think you have it stable with Furmark run Heaven or 3Dmark Vanatage and if you monitor your temps and you are fine with no artificating or crashes then you should have a stable overclock.

Also I know OvrClkr on these forums can only use the 10.4 drivers, the rest are buggy for him. So try even going as far back as 10.4, if my previous post didn't help.

+1 to both Maziar and Helltech

as far as the OC he should be fine, the driver is what is holding him back.

Download the 10.4 and save to desktop :

32bit :

64bit :

Try uninstalling the current driver from the control panel.

Use Driver-Sweeper to remove anything related to ATI/CCC.

Re-boot and install the 10.4 driver.

On the other hand it would be nice to know what model PSU he has, Coolermaster has a 500w PSU that's on the weak side for around 40.00$. Hopefully he has a more powerful model since the DirectCU uses both a 6pin + 8pin to get the juice needed when overclocking the card. If his PSU came with only 1 6pin PCI-E cable then its most likely the culprit to his issue.

Mine does have only 1 pci-e connector... but I tried 2 psus and the 5850 was alone on a 350w psu, and it did the same thing... however, when I raised the vcore to 1.46 the game took a lot longer to crash... I'll try older drivers first though
