Hi guys, i was just putting a rig togethor when i came across some really cheap gtx 295's (200 pounds)

the card i am getting is an overclocked gtx 260:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-135-GW&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1830

but for the same price i can get a gtx 295 !

so i am in a dialemma between maximum horsepower or future proof (gddr5, opengl4.0, dx 11)

what would you guys buy? give me your suggestions. thank you , its very much appreciated.

295 is probably going to be better. Just keep in mind that it doesn't have DX11... The 460 is a great card and if your PC supports SLI, and you would consider doing it, then the 460 is going to be better in the future. Lots of games are coming with DX11 but they'll support DX10 as well. Pure performance tho the 295 is very good.

i have decided to go for 22 inch so 1900 x 1080

My processor is named below:

Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz @ 4.00GHz

so now u know my processor do you still think it wont max out crysis ( or any other latest game for that matter) on that resolution?:

gtx 295 or that overclocked 460 ?

or should i got ati, my budget for the graphics card is 200. 250 at the most, 300 would mean delaying it for a month.

the website i can buy from is overclockers.co.uk

-------------------------------------

also im a little confused, i built a rig for a mate months ago an we managed to run the game on full aa and gamer profile.

it was based on an amd 955 amd a gtx 260 graphics card. although it was being displayed on a 19 inch screen. so based on that i didnt realise that to have the same results on a 22 inch would be so expensive !

will the above spec display crysis in full on those resolutions?

I personally would probably go with a GTX460 because it's really good performance for the price.

You could also save some cash getting an i5 760 and maybe upgrade to a 5850 or GTX 470. An i7 is more than you need for gaming - although that's not to discount that it's a little more "future proof".

As for Crysis, you guys are talking about Warhead it seems (different profile names). At Gamer setting you can probably pull off 4xAA but not 8xAA with either of those cards. Enthusiast setting, probably 2xAA. I run Enthusiast setting, 1920x1080 4xAA with crossfire 5850s (OCed too).

Of the two listed by the OP I'd go for the GTX295-For 200 quid? You have to be joking!
BUT...
A pair of GTX460s' will totally dominate the GTX295 and are not too shabby on their own:

Assuming the i7 is on a SLI capable motherboard the choice seems obvious: One GTX460 now, add another in SLI when funds allow ;)

Agree with Ct1615: DX11 is looking like a big letdown; Huge performance dropoff for little visual impact.
