I connected a cable between an HD cable box to this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116028
Then I connected an HDMI cable between the GT220 and the HD TV (1080p ).

There is an output, but the resolution is not in HD.
I am able to record the program but like I said it is not in HD resolution.

Windows Media Center won't even recognize the TV tuner or it can't find any channels.
I had to use the software/ program that came with the TV tuner to get a signal and flip through channels.
OS used: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

Is it possible to record programs in HD with the setup I mentioned above?
If yes, then how?

Solution
You won't get HD Channel if your cable box don't output HD on its COAX output called CLEAR QAM. Some cable box produce HD output on its HDMI output only and no CLEAR QAM on its coax output.

Try HD Antenna and you will get HD channel from local transmission calles ASTC

I have 2250 and i get ASTC from Air and CLEAR QAM from cable.

1080P is 1920x1080 pixel resolution @ progressive scan mode. 720P is 1280x720 pixel resolution @ progressive scan mode. 1080i is 1920x1080 pixel resolution @ interlace scan mode.

Depending on the sensitivty of your eyes when watching HD movie you won't see much difference until you watch it on a 42 inch HD TV.

When using an HDTV or LCD as monitor as computer monitor 1920x1080 has a lot if desktop space...

Hello there,

I'm using http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-1229-WinTV-HVR-2250-System-Builders/dp/B001E2T6Y4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1283390893&sr=8-1

Should be very similar, the resolution for both is not going to be 1080p it is 1080i, that I think it is the same as 720p, but at least you can tune the hd channels.

And about win 7 not recognizing it, not sure what the problem could be, for my case it was really easy, windows did all the work using windows update, just make sure all the drivers are updated.

When using an HDTV or LCD as monitor as computer monitor 1920x1080 has a lot if desktop space compare to 1366x768 and the difference is extremely noticeable.

So 720P HDTV are not good computer display. Very limited desktop space.
