Is this rig worth it?

So ive sold all my parts which where originally a
Core 2 quad Q9300
4GB Crucial Ballistix 1066Mhz ram
Nvidia Geforce GTX275
MSI P45 Platinum

to a

Intel i7 870
4GB Corsair Dominator GT 2133Mhz
Nvidia Geforce GTX275
Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5

Should i not upgrade to that new configuration any boost in games such as GTA IV? or should i change some parts ?

Thanks much appreciated

More about worth
  1. It ain't no Q9550 but i would have stayed on your current platform , grab an after market cooler and clock away and perhaps a GPU upgrade?
  2. Thanks for the reply. I think overall a I7 870 will beat a Q9550 in like 95% of things. I wanted to move to a i7 870 because its equal to a i7 940. It should give me a boost over a Q9300 surely. my Q9300 was at 3.6
  3. That would depend: real world settings gameplay @ Full HD + AA/AF bottleneck thrown back to GPU but if other multi threaded stuff then ya noticeable gain ^^
  4. I agree with batuchka...

if you have sold your old proc, mobo and RAM...what is done is done...not place for regrets..
Can you still afford GTX460 or HD5850?

if you hadn't sold your old harwares, you could have actually just hold on with your old hardwares untill next year, untill Buldozer, Sandybridge and the higher classed HD6000 are on the market.
You could have also done the combination of both, just get a GTX460 or HD5850 and wait untill next year to replace the proc, mobo and RAM
  5. yah atm if you wanna upgrade AMD is the way to go...1156 and and i7s are going the way of the dodo because 1155 is gonna replace them

I thought about AMD for a while...and there fastest quad is the Phenom II X4 970. My Core 2 Quad Q9300 was at 3.8Ghz anyway so that would'nt have given me any performance boost. And the Amd II X6 Cores are not very good in gaming sadly.

Well i was thinking of buying Two HD5870's for my new rig, a GTX460= GTX285 in terms of performance not a very big upgrade from a GTX275 in my opinion.

    Thank's for the replys guys.
  8. u realize 3.8ghz doesnt mean nething.....because a q9300 at 3.8ghz isnt faster then an i5 at 2.8ghz....AMD Phenom II X4 955 is a great gaming CPU and wont bottlekneck any GPU you get unless you had like crossfire 5970s in which case you need an i7 970+
  9. You can get something like this for $350:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.526580

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231303

Then wait a while for the new ATI 6 series (scheduled this month), sell your 275 and get a HD 5870 or something from the new series.

And im sure a Phenom II 955 isnt as fast as a stock core i5 750 2.66Ghz. So pretty pointless thanks for the advice though

Money's not really an issue, i won't be overclocking my new processor and will be doing alot of multi-tasking and video rendering, and gaming. Is the Phenom II 965 better than the i7 870 at hardcore multitasking talking 20 programs open at same time, or gaming?

You do realise clock for clock the Core 2 Quad Q9300 and the Phenom II X4. the C2Q is 10% faster. Thats why i stated 3.8Ghz.
