Hello, I bought a seagate barracuda 500gb sata to upgrade my current harddisk. heres the product description of Seagate 500gb HDD sata:
Product Description
- Model Number ST3500410AS
- Interface SATA 3Gb/s
- Cache 16MB
- Capacity 500GB
- Areal density (avg) 329Gb/in2
- Guaranteed Sectors 976,773,168

- Height 19.98mm (0.787 in)
- Width 101.6mm (4.000 in)
- Length 146.99mm (5.787 in)
- Weight (typical) 415g (0.925 lb)

then connected it the motherboard but the problem is it doesn't detecting it. I've updated it bios to 0601 (which is latest) but unfortunately it doesn't detect too...

I've checked my motherboard specs here'
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2/M2VMX_SE/#specifications

and it says it's supported sata 3gb/s storage specs..

can anyone help me how can I resolve these???

my current system:
Asus M2V-MX-SE + AMD Athlon64 X2 4400+
Transcend PC2-6400 2gb DDR2
Western Digital 40gb IDE
Radeon HD 4350

hi!! worry out, check if it spins, if so try to find an external usb-sata cable and plug it in a working computer if it is detected reformat it using ntfs format then you are in and if it doesnt detect it but still spinning then if you have your warranty then its time to use

Use the Force150 jumper on the Seagate drive, when connecting to
a VIA Southbridge. A Seagate drive will have four pins on the back
of the drive. Place a 2mm "jumper" across two of the pins, so
that the Seagate drive will operate at 150MB/sec cable rate. Then
your BIOS will see the drive.

^thanks sir but still it doesn't detect the seagate 500gb sata hdd. I've already set the jumper but nothing new happens. I think the motherboard is limited on using big capacity sata hdd especially those with cache 16mb because currently I tested a samsung 160gb sata hdd 8mb cache and eventually it detected.

I guess I should upgrade my motherboard to a latest unit.. Im eyeing for an asrock n68c-s ucc..
