When I try to shut my PC down, I get an error message the different writers have failed. When I just click through these warnings, it takes me into an all day loop. In the meantime, in the background, sometimes Windows updates are trying install, over and over again,
I am not a techy at all but I have a feeling this is a warning that the end of this hard drive is near. Am I correct?

Sounds like a messed up win install. Defragmenting and repair install (if not full) would be in order.
