I uses 3ds Max, Premiere, Photoshop and many resources-hungry software and I’m considering upgrading my computer with the budget not more than 3000 HKD (approx. 387 USD). Currently, I’m using a Core 2 Duo E8400(3.00 GHz, 6MB cache) with 4GB DDR2 RAM.
I wanna buy a AMD Phenom II x6 1055T which is a six-core CPU with 2.8GHz of clock rate. I have to buy a new motherboard as well for this new CPU and I will switch to 4GB DDR3 RAM. I’ll keep my Geforce 9600 GT 1GB display card and other hardware except the above three.
Any good suggestion especially for the motherboard and RAM? Does this CPU really suit this case? Many thanks!

For your budget and purposes, the AMD 6 core cpus are the best bet. The 1055t is currently about $200 US, and a good motherboard will probably run you around $100; this leaves you with not too much to spend on RAM unless you're willing to go over budget by about $13 US. Most decent 4 gig DDR3 RAM kits will be in the $100 US range. I don't know what your selection of motherboards and RAM is like though, so I can't really give you any advice there other than on brands. Gigabyte, ASUS, and MSI are good for motherboards, and GSkill and Mushkin are good RAM bands. If you want, you can put up a few that you like and I (or someone else) could tell you if they are any good.

Thanks for your reply, coleam45.
For motherboard, would AsRock 880GM-LE be better or GIGABYTE GA-770T-D3L be better?

For RAM, is it better to have 1GB DDR3 x4 than 2GB DDR3 x2?

If u aren't planning to CF/SLI and dun wish to pay a premium for it have a look at the 870 chipsets on SB850? I wouldn't go 700 series unless tight for $$ - even less so with Thuban as a BIOS update is mandatory hehe

what are there big differences for the chipsets? I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with this.

890FX: 16/16 when 2 GPUs in CF may have 1-2 more PICex16 lanes, exclusively ATX form factor
890GX: 8/8 yada yada, HD 4290 IGP onboard, 90% ATX
880G: single or mostly 16/4 yada yada HD 4250 yada yada mostly mATX
870: single or mostly 16/4 no IGP

Honestly I think you will be better off upgrading to a quad core CPU, overclocking it, and adding another 4GB of RAM.

i'll have to upgrade the system to 64-bit then. all of my software have to be upgraded. That's too costly.
