New Monitor

So I'm getting the itch to upgrade my monitor for gaming. I currently have a 17' 1280 x 1024 monitor. I was thinking about going up to a 19' widescreen. My video card is a HD 4850 1gb. I do plan to upgrade my video card to a 5850 or 5870 once the price drops. However, my concern is that if I bump up my monitor size I will have to upgrade my video card more often to play newer games on the high or higher settings. Currently I don't have the kind of money to upgrade my gfx card too often so this is my main concern. Will upgrading my monitor cause this problem? If not, what size and resolution would you all recommend for someone who at the moment can't upgrade too often or run crossfire etc. but will want to play on higher rather than more medium settings?

With the cards you are thinking about in the near future I would say 1920 x 1080 22" - 24". Even the HD4850 does reasonably well at that resolution.
