unfortunately for actual physical repair it is next to impossible, without expensive testing equipment and repair tools you won't get very far.

If you just want to be able to repair systems that seem to have bad motherboards there are steps you can do to try and get the Motherboard working again.

Clear the BIOS
Reset sockets
Remove Dust
Switch components out with others to see if its a conflict

If you spend a few minutes navigating around this forum you will see a *lot* of people with MB problems, and suggestions on how to fix them. Read and see what you can learn :)

Here's a good online resource guide -> http://fixingmycomputer.com/ start with the 'Flow Charts'. There's a few online 'Books' here's one -> http://www.freeopenbook.com/upgrading-repairing-pc/main.html

The most common problems with MOBOs:
1. Corrupted BIOS {general corruption, bad flash, bad CMOS battrery}
2. Shorting {HSF backplate, standoffs, peripherals including case headers}
3. Burned-out MOSFET, capacitors, etc.
4. Generalized physical damage {micro-cracking, broken connections, debris/corrosion}
