Switch Question

I have a cable modem running into a linkys wireless router. My blueray (living room), desktop, xbox, and two laptops connect through the router (office). I would like to move my xbox into the living room from the office but that connection (40 ft) is currently taken up by the blueray player. Can I buy a switch and then connect the original Cat5 to the switch and then run out to lines from the switch to both the xbox and blueray player? Any help would be appreciated.
