Cheap price for GTX 470?

hey guys
I know this question has been asked a bit but I just wanted to hear some advice to see if I should proceed with this purchase.

final price is 269.99 and also after rebate it will 249.99

so I am looking at 250$ for a gtx 470, you think that's a good price? Should I go ahead and buy it or should I wait for nvidia to drop their prices more? Also is gigabyte a good brand?

P.S: I am upgrading from a gtx 275 I have an i7 920 so I think that my next upgrade should definitely be a vga to play the latest games on high settings.

it should keep goign down, the 470 is an odd sell because it actually preforms very slightly over a stock 460 however the stock 460 withh have much higher overclock room and thus have better performance potential than a 470 this is why 470's are dropping and going on sale becasue they are hard to get rid of.

I'd say if your heart is set on the 470 though then go for it, if you don't plan on ever overclockign it will outdo a 460 stock and should last a good while.

as for gigabyte they are an excellent brand. one of the best out there. probably put em on par with evega and asus amount the top

It's 20 bucks cheaper than the next best deal anywhere on a 470 right now, but I'm guessing you already knew that.

you're kinda making me rethink my decision now, I am willing to overclock that's for sure, i just thought that the price for 470 was pretty good, so getting a 460 and then waiting for newer better nvidia cards to hit the market would be a smart choice?

2 x GTX 460's will beat a GTX 480 by 20% or so.

The GTX 470 will beat the GTX 460.

Personally, I run a GTX 470 @ 1920x1080 and play just about everything at 60+ FPS with high settings in my games. A GTX 460 @ 1920x1080 may not always go that high, but will cost less, and run cooler/quieter.

@ $250 the GTX 470 is a great deal. I just bought mine for $299 (on sale) a couple months ago, plus a $25 MIR. In a way, I sort of got cheated. LOL But that's how it goes. I also knew at the time that $50 off, plus a $25 MIR was a sign that price drops were imminent. So I took the chance.

i already have a GTX 470 and i love it. the only problem with it i think it the fan noise and thats about it, btw its temps does get high but it never overheated for me.

so i say if you can handle the extra sound comming from the fan its worth the extra power over the 460, otherwise get a 460 for a more silent system.

I do believe you entirely made this up. There is nothing slight about the advantage the GTX 470 has over the 460. At 1080p the card is 20-25% faster at stock which is considerable. As for overclocking they both do so very well but if anything the GTX 470 can do so to a larger degree from everything I have read. It is certainly a much better card when it comes to performance. The advantages of the GTX 460 are price and power/heat/noise.
