I just got off the phone with HP tech support. They think my motherboard (desktop) is fried b/c my monitor keeps going into sleep mode. Anyway, my problem is that I need info off the hard drive immediately. I have a working laptop. Is there a way to get to this hard drive data using the laptop?

No you cant attach a desktop internal HDD into a laptop. Though you can buy a enclosure which will make your internal desktop HDD into a external and then you can access it from your laptop via USB. check this link. it is an example of HDD enclosure.
