External hard drive in Device and Disk Manager, not in My Computer

Hello,

Okay, so to start, I have a Samsung laptop running Windows 7, and am trying to connect an external hard drive to it (the hard drive doesn't seem to be any brand name).

I am positive that I have used this exact same type of external hard drive on my laptop before, so I'm not to sure why it's giving me issues.

I have tried troubleshooting it (it is in my Device Manager as USB to Serial-ATA Bridge), that didn't work. I disconnected, and reconnected, and then finally uninstalled it in my disk manager and then reinstalled it. Nothing works! It shows up everywhere except for where I need it - My Computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

In disk manager - how is the drive displayed? Is there a partition with a drive letter allocated or unallocated?

Asuming this drive has never been used before, while you were in disk management, did you initialize/format the drive? It won't show up in windows (my computer) until you do.

Okay - so I lied! I was confused about what Disk Management actually was - sorry!

So no, it does not show up in Disk Management at all. Only in Device Manager as the ATA-bridge.

Hopefully that is my last blonde moment for the day :/

Either the drivers aren't configured for the drive, or the drive is failing.

Some models of external hard drives require drivers - is there any indication on the case for the drive?

How do UVCView and HD Sentinel identify the drive? UVCView talks to the USB-SATA bridge IC inside the enclosure whereas HD Sentinel attempts to communicate with the HDD behind the bridge.
