Hi Community,

Im thinking of buliding a new gaming computer and am thinking of getting 2x Ati Radeon 5870 as graphic cards. Will getting 2 graphic cards to use on 1 19 inch monitor be too much?

Some of the games i will be playing are:

Battlefield Bad Company 2
Left 4 Dead 2
Splinter Cell Conviction

And most new 2009-2010 games

Thanks

You should just get a single 5850 (not even a 5870), you would be set for your 19 inch monitor and it would save you a lot of money....

19" monitor are limited to 1280 x 1024 or 1440 x 900 maximum resolution.

A single HD 5770 can handle those games at that resolution. An HD 5830 might be a slight overkill. Moving up to a HD 5850 is considered overkill. Anything beyond that is just plain silly.

Yes, an HD5770 is the most you should consider on that monitor.
But if you are saying you can afford 2 HD5870s then just get a good 1080p monitor and SLI 2 GTX 460s. That would be the best way to spend your money.

Wow.. I guess I forgot how small a 19inch monitor was in resolution. In that case, yes even my suggestion is overkill. You should get a monitor upgrade.

23.5" Viewsonic + 5850 would be a good combo, or as jyjjy said 2 460's in SLi if your motherboard/PSU supports it.

wow, talk about OVERKILL!!! why so much power for such a small screen? one of those cards is good enough for that size screen!!

Just my thought

True, but who's not to say he won't want to play other games down the Line, If he's going for a single card I recommend the 5850, If he's going dual I recommend 2x 460's @ 1GB each.

the only good thing about using dual 5850's on thatr size screenis benchmarking!

not gaming!

otherwise what about a screen upgrade while you at it!! thats the only way you can really appreciate two 5850's!! to have two or more cards is nothing, the main purpose is to appreciate them, for what they are worth, and what they can really offer you!!!

Notice how I said in a single card configuration the 5850 would be good while in a dual card configuration 2x 460's @ 1GB would be good? Pay attention!

He is talking about the old screen while you are talking about suggestions to go with a new monitor. It's just a miscommunication.

jyjjy already suggested 2 x 460's, the other section you took my words about :if the HD5850 was overclocked and heating, if you have something to say, try be a bit more original, rather than concuring over and over again! we are here to help people, not to accumulate status points with information we've heard already!!

maybe you should start paying attention!! :pfff:

very disappointing and irrelevant!

My bad, Miscommunication as you said.

That screens a good buy and along with the 5850 it would be a good setup.

A 5850 would do you perfectly now and into the future.
