So, I found a good deal on a normal 840, not a pro 840, and I want to know if its enough to want to get it. I've heard the 830 is more reliable and fast, but I want to know if its enough difference to pass up on it. It's basically, save $30 and get the 840 or spend the extra $30 for the 830. Anyone know if the 840 is a good idea?

All of the Samsung solid state drives are excellent. The have a stellar record.

In all probability you would not notice a performance difference among modern 3rd generation SATA 3 6Gb/s solid state drives. Most of them form a fairly tight performance cluster. You would have to run a synthetic benchmark that grossly exaggerates those differences to see any differences.

I maintain the ssd database listed in the sticky at the very top of this forum section. Here is the link:

Scroll down to the Samsung section where you will find all of the models listed. Follow the links to the technical reviews.

BTW - Interesting title for this thread. What gave you the impression the 840 might be worse than the 830? Can you post a specific reference article?
