does anyone know if i can use an SSD drive in an hp dv1000 laptop ? if so can you send a link or what i should search for? thanks my hard drive died

According to the manual the drive installed has an ATA-5 (PATA) interface and not SATA. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00444244.pdf (See Specifications 6-4). Considering the age of the computer you might consider replacing the drive with a 7200 RPM drive IDE drive http://www.google.com/search?tbm=shop&q=7200+2.5%22+IDE&hl=en&safe=off

Adding an SSD, if it is possible, would involve finding an adapter that would work and may require a BIOS update and drivers to be preinstalled. From what have read in other posts here on tom's hardware it isn't possible or would be a waste of money since you won't be able to enjoy the speed of an SSD.
