Hi all,

Just joined the forum today after many many months of viewing. Please correct me if such a post isn't appropriate in this forum.

Basically, I have my shopping cart all ready to checkout, BUT I'd really love to know if I'm being an idiot.

I'd like to run most current games at full settings. Below is my hardware list:

MSI 790GX-G65 Motherboard

OCZ OCZ3G1333LV8GK Gold 8GB PC10666 DDR3 Dual

Channel Memory Upgrade-1333MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, 2x4096MB

XFX HD585XZAFC Radeon HD 5850 Video Card - 1GB GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0, CrossFireX Ready, Dual DVI, Display Port, HDMI

Corsair CWCH50-1 Hydro H50 CPU Liquid Cooler - 120mm Fan, Copper Cold Plate, Aluminum Radiator, LGA775, LGA1366, LGA1156, AM2/AM3

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition AM3 CPU HDZ965FBGMBOX - 3.40GHz, Socket AM3, 6MB Cache, 2000MHz (4000 MT/s) FSB, Retail, Processor with Fan

Cooler Master HAF 932 Full Tower Black Case

Ultra X4 750-Watt Modular Power Supply - 135mm Fan, ATX, Lifetime Warranty w/ Registration, 80+ Bronze, NVIDIA SLI & ATI Crossfire Certifications, Vibration Dampener Included

Seagate 7200.11 ST31500341AS Barracuda Hard Drive - 1.5TB, 7200RPM, 32MB Cache, SATA-3G (OEM)

Total including shipping = $1666 Canadian (Includes a $199 Philips Monitor)

Thanks a mil!!

Specifically, I'd like to max out Flight Simulator X. I know at the time of its release, it was a bit ahead of its time with respect to available hardware.

At the same time, I'd like a balance between absolute overkill, and having a nice, up-to-date system.

Thanks again!

Drop the RAM to 2x2GB G-skill or something. Change the CPU cooler with Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus, it's better.

I would also drop the crossfire, get a cheaper mobo and PSU (some 550W) and a HD 5870. A HAF 922 maybe. Samsung Spinpoint 3 1TB.

But the new ATI 6 series is about to be launched so you may want to wait a little.

I guess the other question is AMD vs Intel, ATI vs nVidia, CrossfireX vs SLI, etc. I know there's countless similar threads, but I just don't know enough about it to really go and trust a thread without stating my specific situation. I'd LIKE to set a price cap at around 1600.

Get rid of that POS Ultra power supply as well. A Corsair, Antec. XFX ,PC Power and Cooling or Seasonic unit of 650 watts will be fine for what you have listed.

Drop the Seagate 7200.11 drive as well.........they had issues. Get a 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3.

MOSTLY Day to day use to be honest. Some audio production and video playing to a plasma. But every now and then I get on a huge gaming kick, and spending the extra $$ is worth it to me to be able to play the games I like at some nice settings.
