Adding Ram

My computer is a Gateway GT5428 from a few years ago I just want to be able to upgrade the ram. I just want to know if I would be able to know if I would be able to throw in DDR3 ram on my motherboard and if not which DDR2 ram (4gigs maximum on my computer) would fit best? Thanks.

Do not try installing ddr3 in a ddr2 slot. It won't fit, and damage the slot. I would suggest crucial ddr2 for an upgrade only if the price is right. 4 gb is going for around $50 at frys, so 2gb would be around $25. Frys has had 4 gb of ddr3 as low as $12 recently, so if your cpu works in a ddr3 board, it might be a good time to change it.
