i have a seagate external 1tb. it used to work fine, and not when i plug it in the light turns on for about ten seconds, flashes, and then shuts off. i have tried multiple computers and cords, nothing seems to help. is anyone else having this problem? or does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it?

With external hard drives, the weak point is the SATA-USB bridge chip (a small PCB) inside the enclosure. That's why there are more failures with these drives compared to internal hard drives (they don't have bridge chips).

Crack open the enclosure, extract the drive, remove the bridge-chip. then install the drive either into a third-party enclosure, or install as a second drive in a PC.
