How do i know if my desktop is visible to other users on a network

Hello, how do I protect the other internet users in my network from seeing the files and programs I run on my computer?

Firewall also make sure you change the default administrator password
This doesn't prevent them from seeing your computer but makes it difficult to access your system which is to have the most current windows updates
If you are running windows 7 or vista you can change the share so no one can see your public shares
