OK.i am planning on buying a dell studio xps 8100 as a gaming rig.i have already bought a decent 600w psu which will fit in the case.now the gtx 260 which is being provided with the 8100 has 1.8gb vram.i am going to game at 1680 1050.i have heard that the extra vram is useless as compared to a 896mb gtx 260 but this review says that the extra vram made it as powerful as a 275

so at stock clocks with 1792mb vram will the card really be powerful than a stock 260 coz if it isnt i might as well buy a 5770.

Hello,

See it like this:

1920*1200 and up > 1 GB
1920*1200 and down < 768MB (Mostly 1600*1050)

The 1 GB is actively used if you game at high resolutions.

I hope this helps.

Hello,

No. The extra VRAM is useless since you game at lower resolutions. You would need to game at 2560*1600 and up to use the whole RAM effectively.

I would say go for a GTX460 instead, 896MB or 1GB if you want to be future proof. But not more then 1GB and up. That's a waste of money.

5770 HAWK series are doing fairly good aswell.

I hope this helps.
