A ram question

a question for those, unlike myself, who understand this stuff.

Is.....
6GB DDR3 1333Hz RAM

a good choice for the following system.....

2nd Gen i5-2500 3.3GHZ/ Turbo@3.7GHz
Asrock Z68 Pro3 - mobo
120GB NEW SATA3 6G Corsair Force3 - SSD

might as well get high speed while ram is cheap, both are designed with second gen i5's in mind and z68. I would get the 1866hz and overclock it !!!!

sorry - should have mentioned i'm not using pc for games, just multiple programs and big excel function formula work,

dont buy a 6 gig kit, they are for triple channel motherboards only, which yours is not. get 8gb or 4gb.

2 x DDR3 DIMM slots
- Supports DDR3 1333/1066 non-ECC, un-buffered memory

So that only dual channel, right?

So is that ok for this system?

Yes the ASRock Z68 Pro 3 has dual channel RAM. The default speed is 1333 Mhz. There is very little performance gain from OC'ing DDR3 RAM so I would not pay much of a premium for faster RAM.

You did not list your operating system and you may or may not know that you need windows 64 bit to use more than 3.5 gb of ram.

It is Windows 64 bit.

And have chosen 8gig ram.
