Will adding another drive and setting up RAID 0 wipe data on 1st drive

Hello,
I currently have a 1tb WD Caviar black SATA III 6GB/s HDD, and I just ordered another for RAID 0 and an SSD on Newegg. When I install the 2nd drive and configure RAID, will my data be erased from my first drive? Also, will I have to transfer data from my first drive to my second drive in order to make it striped and have optimal performance?

Sorry for the noob question, my google searches yielded no useful data.

Thanks!

The drive will need to be formatted in order to create a RAID array. So simple answer is yes, it will wipe the drive.

Back up all your data that you need to a separate disc, create the RAID array, and put your data back.

Generally it's easier just to buy the amount of drives you need to build your new array. Mind you, most people don't want to spend the extra money if they don't need to :D
