Hello,

I have a Dell XPS 420...was running RAID0 with 2 x 500GBs and windows 8. System crashed with BSOD...system check showed bad hard drive. So....removed both hard drives and reinstalled one 1TB HDD. Never reset the RAID0 in the config tool (I should have). This would cause some errors when I reinstalled windows 8, as the system was looking for the other HDD. If I ignored the warning, it ended up installing windows 8 on the single drive and now I am up and running. But....every time I restart, I get the errors associated with my RAID0 settings. Question: is there a way to turn off RAID without the system now thinking that I have to reinstall windows?

sure. go to MS ahci switcher and run fix it now. That should change the driver from raid to ahci.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976 (fix it is like half way down the page)

Then you need to change the Start value to 0 for both of the following entries in your registry. You can use regedit.exe utility.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi

then reboot into bios and change the sata type to ahci. save and reboot and you should be good to go.
