I've bought an SSD and while, waiting for it to arrive, I've been checking online installation guides and they include a part about transferring data from your old HDD to the SSD using an external usb to sata 3 adapter. While browsing through the comments I've seen people say that the drive won't work unless you do this. Is that really true or can I simply do a fresh W7 install via boot dvd?

For some reason it won't let me edit the OP so I'll just make a reply.

I know the question might be silly, but I just want to make sure as I've never upgraded my laptop hard drive and as far as I know it might differ from upgrading a desktop HD when it's a simple matter of screwing and plugging it in before activating it in the device manager window.
