Upgrading HDD

i am building a new pc and will be getting a new hdd because the i want to keep everything on the hdd i am using now, so i was going to use both harddrives in my computer. what i want to know is if everything in my old harddrive like programs can still be used.(i know about windows wont work and thats why i am getting a new one)

so will all my programs work of my secondary drive?

You will have to reinstall your programs for them to work. There are modifications to Windows files (registry keys, configuration files) that must be done for them to work properly.

As long as you have the same operating system (i.e. Windows 7), the programs should all run. If you are going to a different operating system (i.e. Windows Vista to Windows 8), there may be compatibility issues.

okay right now i am on windows 8, and i was going to install windows 8 again. so the programs should all work fine?
