i have an original Windows XP Professional Setup CD and i accidentally threw
the product key away. Since i had registered my copy i didnt think that after
formatting the pc, i would need this key again. is there any solution o this
problem?

If Windows XP is still installed, use one of the tools Ken suggests.
But, if you already formatted, none of the tools can get the key and the key
is not on the CD..
If Windows XP is retail, contact Microsoft for possible replacement key:

If Windows XP is OEM, contact the seller, Microsoft may not be able to help
with OEM.

Hey if u have an extra computer insert ur start up disk and follow these instructions. when u insert the disk exit auto run and then go to My computer and go to the installtion disk and right click explore and type in the search box unattend. Then u will see your product key anymore questions just ask me.

I just tried your suggestion and was able to find the product key under the unattend text file, but the code didn't work. Do you know why it wouldn't work?
