Toshiba restore files from external hard drive

I have a Toshiba satillite a205 laptop and a Toshibe hddr640e03x external drive. I reloaded my a205 with factory setup (with what was in the computer when I first purcased it.). I now want to load files from my toshiba external backup drive to my computer. How is it done?
