I would like to know if it's possible to run a gaming card and a 3d workstation card such as an Nvidia Quadro FX card switching between the two for different applications?

You can do that with 2 monitors and Win7, but the fact is with a single card, either can do both, but GeForce cards are better than a comparative Quadro at gaming and vice versa.

The difference are just the drivers however, in fact you can even hack drivers on both.

I'd recommend you get a single 5850 OC'ed and then OC it to 5870 level and us it for both gaming and work...

Or get a GTX460/70 for the sake of CUDA support and the ability to hack on Quadro drivers. It depends on your budget really.

Thanks guys. I thought the two card idea wouldn't work. Where can I get info on how to hack Quadro drivers? I don't mind paying for any of the availale gaming cards as they are still much cheaper than good openGl cards.
