Noticeable difference between x2 3.4 and athlon 2.6?

Hi Everyone,

I have a Phenom 9950 quad core at 2.61 Ghz and was thinking about upgrading to a Phenom II X2 656 at 3.4 Ghz. The question I have though is, is there a noticeable difference in performance going from 2.6 to 3.4 Ghz?

  1. I think you meant X2 565???

Here is a review between the two CPU's:

For applications that only take advantage of 1 or 2 cores, the x2 565 3.4GHz will be a lot faster. But if you like to listen to media player, download BT, encode a video and play a game at the same time... the quad core might win out.

Go over to and click BENCH

Then select your current CPU 9950, then the x2 565 and check it out. You can also try other CPUs against the 9950 to see what you think.

The x2 565 seems to be a bit snappier at just about all the benchmarks. Also it is a Black Edition and can be easily overclocked with a simple multiplier bump!

  3. Thanks, looks like there really is no desperate need to upgrade right now. I don't think there would be that much of a difference.
  4. I consider a Phenom II X2 a downgrade from my Phenom X4 9850, the extra 2 cores are much more useful to me than an increase in clock speed.
  5. I consider it an upgrade with the lowered TDP, extra cache and higher clockspeed.

With that said, the Phenom II X4 925 is $125.
