Disk Read Error Occurred - I need help quickly, unfortunately for me.

First off - I apologize because I realize that I should look around for an answer first, but unfortunately for me this is quite urgent.

I opened up the computer, took out the OS HDD and tried to put it into a new system. I received a message:
"A disk read error occurred
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"
I do so and I get the same thing.
I try to put the HDD back into the original system and, in the original system, I get the same thing.
I've reseated all of the cables.

Can anyone help me get the HDD to work with either system?
Specs on old: ASUS board (no model # visible), Intel Pentium 4 3 GHz, Seagate Baracuda 7200.12 1TB
Specs on new: GIGABYTE GA-M57SLI-S4, AMD ATHLON 64 x2 Dual, same HDD

I've been looking for a solution on forums and resetting CMOS keeps coming up. I did as such and I get the same message.
